We couldn't be happier to announce the long awaited return of Cacao Prieto to The Chocolate Project.
Started by Dan Prieto Preston in an old red brick warehouse in Brooklyn NY about 10 years ago, Cacao Prieto uses beans from the family farm, Coralina Estates, located in the Dominican Republic. All of the cacao, flavouring agents, and even their sugar are organically farmed and produced in the DR. The bars are made in the NY warehouse, which is also a distillery producing spirits from Dominican fruits – including cacao!
How could we pass up the opportunity to highlight Canadian bean-to-bar makers on this long weekend? There is some amazing chocolate being made in Canada, and we'll be highlighting bars from East Van Roasters, Sirene, Beta5, Palette de Bine, and Soma (the original Canadian bean-to-bar makers).
We are happy to say that we've brought in EIGHT different bars from Fresco Chocolate! If you're a chocolate nerd or interested in how roast and conche times change the flavour profile of chocolate, you must give Rob's bar a try. His 100% Madagascar bar is also the sixth addition to our 100% line-up.
It's Victoria's Second Annual Car Free #YYJ event! Douglas Street will be pedestrian-only "traffic". The Chocolate Project won't be out on the street (sunshine and chocolate don't mix too well... or rather they melt together), but we will be open at our usual location inside the Victoria Public Market.
We'll be hosting a mini mystery tasting at our shop.
Join us all day Saturday and Sunday (June 18/19) at The Chocolate Project booth for a tasting challenge! This is a fun blind tasting where you are given four mystery bars to taste and four sets of our tasting notes about them. Your job is to match the each bar to the right set of tasting notes. Arrange them correctly, then take a picture and post it on Instagram with the tag #ChocolateTasteChallenge and @thechocpro. For each match you get correct, you will be entered to win your pick of the four bars!
